Blue is the New Green

Paris just recently brought in controls on automobile usage in the city by restricting what cars can be driven on certain days, all in an effort to be 'green'. But there are 'Blue Beaches' in Europe - signifying cleanliness, and Nice has VeloBleu for bicycle rentals, as well as AutoBleu for car rentals so it seems like perhaps blue is the new green.

There are 175 VeloBleu bicycle stands are all over the city, about three of them within a three-minute walk from our hotel. Each stand holds from 10 to 20 blue bicycles. You sign up with a credit card, pick a bike from any stand, and return it to any stand. The cost to sign up is 1 euro for 24 hours, 5 euros for 7 days, up to 25 euros for a full year. Then you pay for usage - with the first 30 minutes being free, and 1 euro for each 30 minutes after that. A nice little basket to hold your lock and your goodies, and you are off.  Very convenient.

Today we bicycled out to an Art Naif gallery, bicycled back for lunch on the beach, bicycled to the Old Town for another meander followed by wine and socca (chick-pea flour, spices, and water, baked on a large pancake pan in a wood oven), and bicycled back.

Socca and Vin Rouge - Tastes much better than it looks!

Oh, and if your rental is less than 30 minutes, there is no charge - sweet!

The next day, in Italy, we see the same sort of program with yellow bikes...
Hey - does this mean that 'Yellow is the new blue?'
