Construction Update

Once the ten rows of bricks are complete and dry, wood forms are placed around the four corner re-bar structures and they are filled with concrete - which ties all the walls together.

With a full day work on Friday and  half-day of work on Saturday, our status on the three construction sites is as follows:
  • Site A - Bricks completed, the corner supports filled, and a special concrete slab was added to the back of the facility to be used as a communal washing area
  • Site B - Bricks complete and corner supports filled
  • Site C - Bricks complete and currently drying

We were told that of the six WatSan groups in Addis so far, we have accomplished the most in terms of construction progress, but we had a lot of local help. The ladies at Site C even provided food with coffee today. Although there were no takers from our group. That was OK, though - it was certainly appreciated by the local workers and disappeared in about three minutes flat.

On Site A we are also well known to the local kids and our skipping ropes and water-based tattoos were a definite hit.
